A biker has died following a crash near St Ives

The road was closed for nine hours while investigators went over the scene

A 61-year-old biker has died following a crash near St Ives.

Police say a car and motorbike were involved in the collision on the Old Coach Road on Tuesday evening.

Sadly the local man could not be saved and died at the scene. The people in the car were not injured.

The road was closed for nine hours while it was examined by investigators.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam footage, is asked to contact officers.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in St Ives yesterday 7 September in which a motorcyclist died.

"Officers were called just after 5.30pm following the collision between a Suzuki GSXR motorcycle and a Daewoo Matiz on Old Coach Road.

"The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old man from St Ives, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The occupants of the car were not injured.

"Old Coach Road was closed for nine hours while the scene was examined by a specialist forensic collision investigator.

"Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for witnesses. They would also like to hear from any motorists who may have relevant dash cam footage."
