Biker in his 20s dies after crash on main road to Newquay

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion on causing death by dangerous driving

A young moped rider has died after a serious crash on one of the main roads to Newquay.

The rider, who was 22, lost his life after his motorbike and a car collided on the A3075.

Police have confirmed the man was pronounced dead at the scene and his family have been informed.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning (26th April) near Gwinnear Fishery.

The road between the Trevemper roundabout and Rejerrah crossroads was closed in both directions for around 12 hours.

It has now been reopened.

Devon and Cornwall Police have also confirmed a driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

"Police were called to a collision involving a black Mercedes estate car and a grey Aprilia moped on the A3075 near Gwinnear Fishery, Newquay, this morning, Monday 26 April, at 4.30am.

"The rider of the moped, a 22-year-old local man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed.

"The road remains closed as officers from the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Team carry out an investigation of the scene.

"The driver of the car, a 48-year-old man from the Newquay area, sustained minor injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving."
