Seriously injured biker airlifted to hospital after crash in Cornish hamlet

Police say a biker has suffered serious injuries after a crash near Penzance, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The rider's motorbike and a car collided at Newton Germoe on Thursday morning.

It happened just after rush-hour and the casualty had to be airlifted to hospital.

Officers closed the A394 to allow Cornwall Air Ambulance to land, but the road reopened two hours later.

Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Police were called just after 9am with reports of a collision between a car and a motorbike on the A394, Newton Germoe in the Penzance area, close to the Coach and Horses pub and the Farmers Packet pub.

"The rider of the motorbike has sustained serious injuries, although not believed to be life-threatening.

"The road was closed to allow the air ambulance to land; the patient has since been airlifted to hospital.

"The road was fully reopened by 11.30am".
