Person airlifted to hospital after getting stuck 20ft down gorge in Tintagel
Emergency services were involved in the big rescue operation at Rocky Valley
A person has been rescued after getting stuck 20 feet down in a gorge in Tintagel.
Emergency services were called to Rocky Valley in Tintagel on Friday morning (4th March).
The casualty was stuck in a stream, around 20 minutes away from the nearest road, and coastguard crews, police, firefighters and paramedics were call called to the scene.
They were winched to safety then airlifted to hospital for onward care.
A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: “At shortly after 9am today (4th March), HM Coastguard received a report from Devon and Cornwall Police of an incident at Tintagel, North Cornwall.
"The coastguard helicopter from Newquay was sent as well as Boscastle Coastguard Rescue Team to assist the police, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service at the scene.
"The coastguard helicopter successfully winched one person to safety and transferred them to hospital for onward medical care.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service said: "A crew from Delabole and a technical rescue officer were mobilised to a casualty stuck in a stream, twenty feet down in a gorge.
"The crew located the casualty twenty minutes from the nearest road access along with the Police and SWASFT.
"Further assistance was requested in the form of specialist line rescue technicians from Bodmin Community Fire Station and the Coastguard.
"The casualty was winched to safety from the stream and airlifted to hospital."
