A warning has been issued after a landslide saw a "significant" slab of rock fall off a coastal path near Padstow, narrowly missing beach-goers.
Coastguard crews say the section of the coast path at Mother Ivey's Bay has been sectioned off and people are urged not to get too close below.
In a statement, Padstow Coastguard Rescue Team say they got the call at 13.28 to investigate reports:
"On arrival, the team established that a significant slab of rock had fallen from the cliff at the western end of the bay, near to Long Cove, narrowly missing some beach goers.
"FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PURPOSES: HMCG has taped off a section of the coast path above Mother Ivey's Bay to identify the area where the fall has taken place.
"Beach-goers should avoid setting up near to, or approaching the cliff face at the western end of the Beach (Long Cove side), as the cliffs above are unstable. Our advice is always to ensure you are at least 15 Metres from any cliffs when choosing your site on the beach".
In a post, Padstow Coastguard Rescue Team wrote: "We would like to point out that erosion and rock slides don't only happen on the cliff face, they happen at the cliff top as well.
"We regularly give safety advice to folks standing on the edge of 100FT+ cliffs taking in the view (or taking selfies).
"A great photo isn't worth the risk of a significant fall from height onto rock... stick to the marked path. If you are tempted by the sight of an old path on the other side of a fence, always remember that the fence is there for a reason! Stay safe".
