Tiny baby monkey born at Newquay Zoo
The Goeldi's monkey weighs about as much as a golf ball at the moment
A monkey weighing about as much as a golf ball has been born at Newquay Zoo.
The Goeldi's monkey was born to Rina and Max last month, and is now starting to explore the world - from the safety of its mother's back.
Dave Rich, Newquay Zoo Head Keeper, said: “The baby is doing really well. Although it will cling on to its mother’s back for a little while more, it’s already becoming really inquisitive, especially when it comes to food!”
Goeldi's monkeys are normally found in the Amazon regions of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil.
They're small, usually only reaching about 23cm by adulthood - but they can jump around four metres from branch to branch, and their calls can be heard 100m away.
In the wild they're classified as vulnerable, due to habitat destruction from logging, farming and development in the Amazon.
