A virtual remembrance service is being held for families who have lost babies across Cornwall.

Baby Loss Awareness Week is running between the 9th and 15th October.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital holds an annual service which will be online again this year, due to the pandemic.

The event sees families who have experienced baby loss being given an opportunity to come together and receive comfort and support.

In previous years, the Chaplains and Bereavement midwives have organised the annual event in Truro, which is usually very well attended by families from all over Cornwall and further afield.

It is particularly geared for those who have experienced baby loss and been supported by the teams at Treliske hospital, though not exclusively.

Sarah, one of the Chaplains and organisers of the event said: "We are really sad that we can't have an event in Truro this year and see everyone face to face, but in order to keep one another safe we have needed to provide a virtual service once again this year.

"It will be comforting, uplifting and feature contributions from key people along with beautiful outdoor footage. This year we are also encouraging families who have experienced baby loss to send us the details of their babies name along with a message which will be written on a heart and placed on the memory tree in the chapel of the Royal Cornwall Hospital."

Kate Putnam one of the Bereavement midwives added: "The service is open for anyone who has experienced Baby Loss. We understand first-hand how distressing an experience it is, and the wonderful thing about the online service is it unites families together in their loss and helps them feel less alone. We invite all families to light a candle at home on Sunday 15th October as baby loss week comes to an end as we remember all the babies."

The baby loss service event will go live on Sunday 10th October at 2pm and will be available afterwards on YouTube.
