Baby taken to hospital after 'fall' from wall in St Ives harbour

Police, Cornwall Air Ambulance and Coastguard crews were called to the scene on Tuesday

Police, called to reports of a child falling from the harbour wall in St Ives, have confirmed a baby had to be taken to hospital.

The Cornwall Air Ambulance and HM Coastguard crews were scrambled on Tuesday evening but, luckily, the infant's injuries are not thought to be serious.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were made aware of a concern of welfare of an infant who had reportedly fallen from a wall yesterday evening, Tuesday 20th September. The incident happened on St Ives Harbour.

"The Air Ambulance attended the scene and the infant was taken to hospital. The injuries are not believed to be serious at this stage.

"The family were present at the time of incident".

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "His Majesty's Coastguard received a call shortly after 6.30pm yesterday (20th September) reporting an incident involving a child in St Ives.

"The coastguard rescue team from St Ives was sent to set up a safe landing site for the air ambulance".
