Asylum seekers to be moved from Newquay hotel
The Home Office informed Cornwall Council of the decision today
A hotel in Newquay is being closed to asylum seekers from today, according to Cornwall Council.
The authority says it's been informed about the decision on the Beresford Hotel by the Home Office, and the decision was taken without reference to Cornwall Council.
It says residents will be moved to alternative accommodation in the South East of England - no further information is available at present.
In a statement, the council added, "We would like to thank residents in Newquay and across Cornwall for the ongoing support and welcome shown to residents who were temporarily in Newquay awaiting their asylum claims being determined."
