Arson suspected following large fire in north Cornwall

Police say arson is suspected following a large fire near Padstow, that engulfed several scrap cars and caravans.

Firefighters from the town, Wadebridge, Newquay and St Columb were called to St Merryn in the early hours of Tuesday morning (20th September).

In a post on Facebook, Padstow Community Fire Station confirmed 12 vehicles were involved in the fire.

They posted: "We attended a large fire involving 12 vehicles in a field. We worked with crews from Wadebridge, St Columb and Newquay to contain and extinguish the fire".

A force spokesperson said: "Police are currently investigating an incident of suspected arson which happened in St Merryn, Padstow, on Tuesday 20th September in the early hours of the morning.

"No one was injured in the incident, however, several scrap vehicles and caravans were set alight.

"Anyone with information is being asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk quoting crime reference number CR/087168/22".
