Men arrested after young woman sexually assaulted in St Austell

Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses

Two men have been arrested following reports of a sexual assault in St Austell.

A woman in her 20s is being supported by specialist officers after an incident just two days before Christmas.

The assault is reported to have happened shortly before 10pm on Thursday night (23rd December).

Officers issued an appeal for information on Christmas Eve and after initial enquiries, they have confirmed two men have been arrested.

Both men, one from the St Austell area and the other from Birmingham, are in their 30s have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

In a statement on Christmas Day - which has since been updated - Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police have arrested two men in connection with reports of a sexual assault in St Austell.

“The incident is reported to have taken place at around 9.55pm on Thursday 23 December.

“Following initial enquiries and information received from the public following an appeal, two men were arrested earlier today 25 December.

“The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers.

“Two men in their 30s, one from the St Austell area and one from Birmingham, have been arrested in connection with this incident and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

“Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and ask anyone with information to contact officers on 101 quoting 0922 of 23/12/21.
