Police say a man has suffered several life-threatening stab wounds
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault in St Austell.
Police say a man in his 30s suffered several life-threatening stab wounds on Victoria Road on Thursday evening.
He was airlifted to Derriford Hospital and remains in a critical but stable condition.
Another man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Detectives are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and are going through CCTV footage.
A cordon remains in place at the scene.
"Police were called to a convenience store in Victoria Road, St Austell, following reports of a serious assault at around 7.20pm on Tuesday 6 July.
"A man aged in his 30s sustained several life-threatening stab wounds and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he currently remains in a critical but stable condition.
"A cordon remains in place at the scene and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue.
"Detectives have carried out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries as part of the investigation.
"A 43-year-old man from St Austell has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
"A 40-year-old man, also from St Austell, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and is in police custody."
