One person arrested following reports of someone with a knife in St Austell

The incident happened in broad daylight but police say no-one was hurt

One person has been arrested following reports of someone carrying a knife in St Austell in broad daylight.

Police say searches were carried out after a 999 call on Saturday afternoon.

A suspect was taken into custody on suspicion having an offensive weapon.

Posting on social media, officers have confirmed no threats were made and no-one was harmed.

They have thanked the public for their accurate description and reports which enabled them to resolve the incident quickly.

St Austell Police said: "This afternoon we received a 999-call reporting that an individual had been sighted in St Austell town carrying a knife.

"Officers were deployed immediately and began to search the area.

"After a short while we located the individual and they were arrested for Possession of an Offensive Weapon and conveyed to custody.

"No threats were made, or anyone harmed during this incident.

"We would like to thank the members of public who called us and passed accurate description/location details to enable us to quickly resolve this incident".
