The trust that runs Cornwall's main hospitals has confirmed it is currently treating around 130 patients with coronavirus.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust says the majority of those were admitted for other reasons before later testing positive.

Bosses say modelling suggests that figure will continue to rise going into next week too, as cases within the community remain high.

Latest weekly figures show Cornwall recorded 5,127 cases in the seven days to Saturday 12th March, giving us a case rate of 890.8 per 100,000 people.

Visiting is still suspended at the RCHT unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as for end-of-life care, maternity and paediatrics.

Please see the hospital's Keeping In Touch information about the many ways it can help you to stay in touch with relatives and loved ones.

The trust has been operating at critical incident level since October and coronavirus is one of the reasons for that.

Speaking last week, Chief Exec Steve Williamson said: "Staff right across the health and care system do outstanding jobs every single day.

"Our ambulance service colleagues are under significant pressure - so are staff right across RCHT but also in our Community Partnership Trust, in GPs, in our care sector - so everyone works incredibly hard. I think all parts of the health and care system are seeing that challenge and that level".

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals' Trust has repeated its warning that the Duchy's entire health care system is under immense pressure right now.

We are being urged not to go to A&E or call 999 unless it is a life-threatening emergency.

Patients are asked to use their pharmacies, own GPs or to call 111 if they need advice on the best place for their needs.
