Armed police called to Newquay after reports of man firing an air rifle

Armed police have been called to an incident in Newquay, after reports involving a man with an air rifle.

Officers rushed to an address on Mount Wise on Sunday evening, after witnesses claimed to have seen a man firing a weapon.

They also received reports of a man walking along the road and making threats.

Police attended Berry Road after the initial call at around 6.45pm.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

He was taken into custody, where he remained as of Monday morning (10th May).

"Police were called at around 6.45pm yesterday, Sunday 9th May, following reports that a man was firing an air rifle from an address on Mount Wise, Newquay, and was subsequently reported to have been walking along the road making threats with an air rifle.

"Armed officers attended Berry Road and a 30-year-old man from Newquay was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and is in police custody this morning".
