Armed police arrest man at Hayle hotel

A man's been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and making threats to kill

Police have arrested a man in connection with an incident at a hotel in Hayle.

Armed officers were called to reports a man claiming to have a gun had been threatening members of the public at the Premier Inn in Loggans at around 1.30am on Thursday 9th May.

Superintendent Jim Saunders, Tactical Firearms Commander for this incident, has given this statement:

"We deployed Armed Response Officers to the scene where the man said that he did not have a weapon and had barricaded himself into the room.

"Police negotiators attended to provide support along with Force Support Groups, Dog Unit, Response Units, Drone Team and colleagues from the Fire and Ambulance services.

"This was a contained incident and there was no wider risk to the public.

"At 11.30am a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and making threats to kill. He remains in police custody.

"Searches and enquiries are ongoing at the scene but at this time no firearm has been located.

"I’d like to thank the public for their patience while we attended the area this morning."
