It's SNOW April fools joke... but parts of Cornwall have seen a dusting of snow.

It may be April now but temperatures have dropped with snow flurries and hail showers reported overnight and this morning (Friday).

Some people have taken to Twitter to share photos, with several showing a light dusting of the white stuff in the Truro area.

Wintry showers and ice-cold temperatures were felt across the country overnight.

Met Office meteorologists issued a yellow weather warning for ice on Thursday night, covering north-eastern areas of England and eastern Scotland, including the Shetland Islands.

The warning, which means icy surfaces could disrupt travel and cause injuries from slips and falls, ends on Friday morning though.

A separate yellow warning for snow and ice also that covered a small pocket of south-east England was also in force overnight.

Cornwall and Devon were reported to have some of the warmest overnight temperatures, at a tropical 6C.

So what is in store weather wise?

Today:

A dry and frosty start the morning for most with some sunny spells, but also with a scattering of showers across Cornwall. The showers across Cornwall will die away by midday, but isolated showers will develop elsewhere for the afternoon. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Becoming dry, clear and cold for time this evening, but during the early hours outbreaks of sleet will arrive from the north, with some snow falling over the moors. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Saturday:

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow at first on Saturday will clear during the morning leaving bright spells and scattered showers, these wintry on the highest ground. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

A frosty start Sunday then dry with bright spells. Cloudy, windy and milder on Monday with rain at times. Bright and breezy on Tuesday with the odd light shower.
