North Cornwall crash on A39 claims lives of biker and pillion passenger

The road was closed for over eight hours

A motorbike rider and pillion passenger have died following a crash on the A39 in north Cornwall.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Wainhouse Corner, near Bude, at around 11am on Easter Monday.

A van and a motorbike were involved in the collision at Collamoor Head.

Tragically the motorbike rider, a man in his 60s, and his pillion passenger, a woman in her 60s, both from the Truro area, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A man in his 50s, from the Camelford area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He remains in custody.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "The road was closed for more than eight hours and we thank the public for their patience whilst the investigation took place at the scene.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team and collision investigators attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision."
