The organisers of a group calling for volunteers to help with with any potential clean-up after an 'illegal rave' in north Cornwall say they have not been needed.

A post on the clear up page shows rubbish bagged up after the gathering at Davidstow Moor, despite separate reports of fields and verges having been strewn with litter.

Police spent the weekend trying to close down the event, which was first reported at around 10pm on Friday night.

Officers said roads in the area were gridlocked with parked cars, while locals reported being kept awake by the music.

That included mum Helen French, who told us her dead-end road looked more like the M1 and she had a sleepless night.

Helen was among those worried about the potential mess, saying: "I've got no problem with people enjoying themselves and partying. Not my thing at all, wouldn't want to go, far too many people but why do they have to come to beautiful areas? If it was somebody's party in a garden, you'd soon be shut down wouldn't you?

"They've come down, they've invaded out peace and quiet and loveliness, yet we're prepared to gang together and tidy up their mess to keep it nice for us".

Posting on Facebook on Sunday, North Cornwall MP Scott Mann said it has caused "concern and disruption" for his constituents.

He said: "I am not happy that many people in North Cornwall have had to put up with this unplanned and uninvited event, especially when so many of you have worked hard to make this an unforgettable weekend.

"The organisers of this illegal event have given no consideration to our community, or the cost of cleaning up the mess they are likely to leave behind".

However, it has been reported that those involved refused to leave until they had helped tidy up the area.

Devon & Cornwall Police have confirmed around 10 arrests were made over the weekend, on suspicion of drink/drug and driving offences.

The force says the individuals have now been released from police custody, pending further enquiries.
