Another rise in weekly number of coronavirus related deaths in Cornwall
Figures show there have 10 have been recorded in the past seven days
The number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 322 in the last 24 hours, official figures show – and three more deaths were recorded.
A total of 55,984 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on October 28th (Thursday), up from 55,662 on Wednesday.
Latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 2,737 new cases in the seven days to last Sunday, giving us a case rate of 475.6 per 100,000 people.
Some areas have seen almost double the overall case rate for Cornwall in recent weeks.
Those include parts of Camborne, Pool and Redruth, where, in Camborne East, the current case rate is 707.7 per 100,000 people.
Cornwall Council's Public Health Team has warned people that Covid has not gone away and residents and visitors are being urged to remain vigilant, especially over the busy Halloween weekend.
There were also three more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Cornwall.
The dashboard shows 559 people had died in the area by October 28 (Thursday) – up from 556 on Wednesday.
It means there have been 10 deaths in the past week, which is an increase on seven the previous week.
They were among 7,610 deaths recorded across the South West.
The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
The figures also show that more than three-quarters of people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The latest figures show 416,467 people had received both jabs by October 27 (Wednesday) – 78% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.
Across England, 79% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
