Almost 12,700 people in Cornwall have caught Covid-19 since start of pandemic

106 more cases have been confirmed in the Duchy and Isles of Scilly in 24 hours

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly increased by 106 in 24 hours.

Figures from Public Health England show that as of Wednesday morning (3rd February), 12,670 have tested positive since the start of the pandemic.

That has risen from 12,564 at the same time on Tuesday (2nd February).

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests - those carried out by commercial partners - alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly now stands at 2,216 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 6,023.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 19,202 over the period, to 3,871,825.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's cases were among the 193,901 recorded across the south-west, a figure which rose by 942 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
