Cornish Pirates have confirmed that Alfie Petch will be staying on at the club after signing a new contract.

The 25-year-old tighthead prop had been offered on loan to the team midway through last season by Gloucester, making three appearances with the club.

Previously, he had played at the club during the 2021-22 season, appearing in 23 matches, before playing for the Northampton Saints, as well as Biarritz in France.

Now, the club has confirmed in a statement that Alfie has signed another contract with the rugby team for the upcoming season.

Alfie said on his decision to stay at the club: "Cornwall is my home, so I’m delighted to be back. I’ve loved representing this club before and I’m looking forward to doing it again and bringing my experience to the group.

"I'm really excited about the squad we’re building and am confident we can a real go at the Championship next season."

Speaking on the decision, joint head coach Alan Paver said: "It’s cracking news that Alfie has signed for us. He went away and has done some really good stuff playing in the Premiership either side of a spell in France.

“Although still a young man he has acquired considerable experience, and I am sure that someone of his calibre will be beneficial to help bring on the forwards here.

Petch has already had a strong rugby career, having already become a former England 20s international.
