The elderly woman was found by her neighbour after she spotted the woman's cat, meowing in the corner of a large maize field near to her home.

The 83-year-old had fallen around 70ft down a steep embankment in Trequite, St Kew.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attended, along with their specialist water rescue team, Cornwall Air Ambulance, and SWAST.

She was hoisted back up to safety on a stretcher and taken to hospital via the Air Ambulance in a stable condition.

Her neighbour Tamar Longmuir said:

"Emergency vehicles arrived very quickly considering they also had to walk down through field and climb down to us. police, police dogs, paramedics, the fire brigade and the air ambulance who were all absolutely amazing and it was such a relief to see them.

“If it wasn't for Piran the cat hanging around at the entrance of that field I don't know if I would have gone there at that time, I may have gone back later after checking other places, so I'm very glad I went when I did and that I was able to help”.
