Additional £9 million for vulnerable residents across Cornwall amid cost of living pressures
Cornwall Council will receive £9,057,140 in the latest round of Government funding to help families that need support amid the rise in the cost of living
Cornwall Council is set to receive millions of pounds more in funding - as we continue to face pressures brought by the cost of living crisis.
The authority will receive £9,057,140 in the latest round of Government funding to help families that need it - helping with the cost of essentials in the face of rising costs.
The news today comes as the Government has confirmed new Household Support Fund Allocations for Local Authorities across England, bringing the level of support handed to Cornwall Council to just over £22.6 million.
In total, the authority have received £22,642,849 in Government help.
Commenting, Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay said: “I am pleased to see the Government continue to review its response to the international cost of living crisis caused by Putin’s war in Ukraine, and in doing so provide further funding to local authorities like Cornwall Council to support those who need it most.”
“The Government has already delivered an unprecedented package of support to households across the UK, but this further support, which will be delivered by local council’s and their partner organisations, will be locally targeted and spent to enable it to reach those who need it the most.”
“I look forward to seeing this funding drawn down and put to good use in Cornwall as soon as possible.”
The Household Support Fund is a discretionary fund provided to local authorities enabling them to provide support to vulnerable families struggling to cover essential costs who may not be eligible for other Government support schemes.
Commenting, Mims Davies, Minister for Social Mobility, Youth and Progression said:
“The Household Support Fund has already helped many people across England through these challenging times and I am pleased it will continue to do so for another full year.
“This is just one part of our extensive and targeted £26 billion support package, which includes payments of £900 for millions of people on benefits and additional support for disabled people and pensioners, whilst every household will continue to save money thanks to our Energy Price Guarantee.”
