Drivers urged to avoid area as serious crash closes A390 in Cornwall

Police say the stretch of road will remain shut for several hours

A stretch of the A390 has been closed in Cornwall following what is described as a serious crash.

It is understood that a van and a motorbike were involved on Edgcumbe Road, near Lostwithiel, and the junction with the B3269.

The extent of injuries is not yet known but emergency services are on the scene.

Police officers say the road will be closed for several hours and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision involving a motorbike and a vehicle in Edgcumbe Road, Lostwithiel.

"The incident was reported to police at around 12.10pm on Wednesday 4th May.

"The location is said to be the junction of the A390 and B3269.

"Road closures are in place and are expected to remain so for several hours. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

"No further details are available at this time."

St Austell Police said: "Due to an ongoing incident travel through the A390/B3269 junction at Pelyn Vets is impossible and will be for some time. Please seek alternative routes."

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "A390 Edgcumbe Road in both directions closed, slow traffic due to serious accident, a van and a bike involved between the B3269 (Fowey turn off, Lanlivery) and B3268 Tanhouse Road (Lostwithiel).

"The road remains closed since 12:30."

As of 6.30pm the road is still closed in both directions.
