A30 weekend closure starts tonight
Drivers are being urged to plan their journeys
Part of the A30 will be closed to drivers again this weekend.
The road will be shut between Boxheater and Scorrier from Friday 17 November to Monday 20 November.
It's part of National Highways' A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross upgrade, and follows a weekend closure earlier this month to switch traffic at the Marazanvose ‘green bridge’ location.
The company say the closure is required to carry out carriageway realignment around Tolgroggan, earthworks near Marazanvose and drainage work at the Chiverton end of the scheme.
Lead contractors Costain will also be continuing preparatory work at Chiverton, ahead of the installation of a multi-use bridge as part of Cornwall Council’s Saints Trails cycling/walking initiative.
During the weekend closure, from 8.00pm on the Friday to 6.00am on the Monday, westbound traffic will be diverted from Boxheater on the A30 via the B3285 and the A3075 to rejoin the A30 at Scorrier, with the eastbound diversion route in reverse.
Due to a low bridge (4.7 metres) at Scorrier, HGVs will be diverted via the A393 and A39 to rejoin the A30 at Carland.
Neil Winter, Senior Project Manager for National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme, said: "We appreciate the closure will have an effect on journey times, and we understand roadworks can be frustrating, but we are carrying out this essential work over one weekend to minimise disruption.
"We thank drivers for their patience ahead of the weekend closure and once completed, drivers won’t see any difference to their journeys through the scheme.
"We’ve communicated the closure in advance to local communities and businesses and once we finalise plans for further closures next month we’ll provide further updates as we progress this massive road upgrade for Cornwall."
The new carriageway is scheduled to be opened at the end of winter 2023/2024.
