A stretch of the A30 has been closed in north Cornwall following a car and caravan fire.

The road is shut eastbound in the Temple area and there is very slow traffic.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the vehicle, which was towing a caravan, and there appears to be long tailbacks at the scene.

Police say no injuries have been reported.

The road is expected to be closed for some time and drivers are urged to avoid the area.

"Police were called at 1.30pm today to the A30 at Temple following reports of a vehicle fire.

"A vehicle and towed caravan were on fire on the Eastbound carriageway.

"No injuries have been reported.

"The road is expected to be closed for some time whilst emergency services attend the incident.

"Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible."

Devon and Cornwall Police

"One appliance from Bodmin and one from Launceston were in attendance at this incident.

"The incident involved one car towing a caravan which also became involved in the fire and was well alight when crews arrived on scene.

"Two hosereels and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire.

"The A30 at Temple in both directions was closed for a time to deal with the fire."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service

"One lane closed and very slow traffic due to car fire on A30 Eastbound from A38 Launceston Road (Callywith) to Codda (Bolventor / Jamaica Inn).

"Eastbound has reopened with a lane closed for recovery. The road was fully closed after a car and caravan was on fire around Temple."
