Local boy Aaron Knuckey stars in his first big role as a parkour athlete

The new film of Matilda The Musical is out today - and you'll be able to see a teenager from Redruth in the cast.

Aaron Knuckey took part in virtual auditions during the pandemic to secure his role in the film.

Around 50 people auditioned for the role, with Aaron coming down to the last nine.

With auditions all over the country he is the furthest child South to take part in the Musical.

Training for the role began at Alexandra Palace in London from February to May in 2020.

"When I was there I was quite nervous because I knew nobody. Well nobody knew anyone but I didn't know that."

"I found some new people to hang out with and they all did parkour so it was quite nice to catch up with people"

"I stay in touch with them and they're really nice guys, it's great" Aaron said.

His family has hired a screen at the cinema for 81 friends and relatives to watch it for the first time.

He uses his skills as a Parkour athlete in the film - and he tells us it's been great to meet people who share the his passion.

Aaron said "It was amazing. I met a lot of new people that enjoyed the sport I loved. It's quite an unusual thing, not many people really know about it or know what it is let alone do it."

Aarons mum, Samantha Knuckey said she's really proud her son and the what he's taken from the experience.

"He's made a lovely group of friends, that we keep in touch with and visit often"

"They shared this really unique experience that I think is a bond that will never really break, as they did it together during really hard times for people"
