An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire at a block of flats in Truro.

Several crews were called to Station Road last night after the building was evacuated.

The fire has since been extinguished and everyone accounted for.

"A passer by phoned 999 to alert the Fire Service to smoke issuing from the top floor flat. Three appliances were immediately mobilised from Truro and Tolvaddon.

"The Officer in Charge quickly requested a fourth pump which was also mobilised from Tolvaddon. This then prompted mobilising specialist vehicles from Falmouth and St Just. The block of flats was evacuated and all persons were quickly accounted for.

"The crew used two breathing apparatus, one extended hosereel jet, one safety jet and one triple extension ladder, the fire has now been extinguished. Police and Ambulance are also in attendance."
