Forecasters are predicting waves of up to 20ft as gales batter the Cornish coast.
A weather warning for gusts of up to 70mph will remain in force until 3pm on Thursday.
The Met Office says there is the risk of power cuts and travel disruption too, made worse by heavy showers.
Ann's Cottage surf forecaster, James, said: "The north coast will see 12-20ft waves with gale force cross-shore winds. The south coast will see 12-18ft waves with gale force onshore winds".
The RNLI and CoastSafe have issued safety warnings, reminding anyone who is out for their daily exercise not to get too close to the water's edge or the edges of cliffs.
What does the Met Office say can we expect?
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.
Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.
Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.
Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.
