Cornwall recording around 5,000 new coronavirus cases every week
Cornwall Council's Public Health Team has issued fresh advice as rates remain high
Last updated 19th Mar 2022
Public health officials have revealed the number of new coronavirus cases being recorded in Cornwall has reached around 5,000 per week - an average of 700 per day.
It was confirmed during a Facebook Live Q&A on living safely with Covid, hosted by Cornwall Council on Friday.
The authority is calling on residents to remain vigilant by wearing masks, ventilating rooms and getting vaccinated, saying the number coming forward for jabs has dipped.
The Q&A was held after we revealed Cornwall's main hospitals are currently treating around 130 Covid-positive patients.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust has suspended visiting unless there are exceptional circumstances like end-of-life care.
Bosses say the suspension will continue over the weekend before being reviewed again next week.
What do I do if I test positive?
In its latest update, Cornwall Council says: "Covid-19 is still with us so it’s important that we all go on doing simple things to protect our families and communities – particularly those at the greatest risk of severe illness.
If you test positive, here's what you should do if you can:
• Stay at home and avoid contact with others
• Follow the latest government guidance for people who test positive, available by hitting the blue button below
• You should not attend work while you are positive if you can avoid it - talk to your employer about what options are available
• Avoid inviting anyone into your home and cancel routine medical or dental appointments
• Tell people you've met with recently about your positive test result so they can follow the right guidance
• If you do have to leave home, wear a face covering, stay at least 2m apart from others and avoid contact with those at high risk from Covid
