New figures show 337 visas have now been issued in Cornwall under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.

That is the third highest number of visas issued in the country.

The data has been published by the Home Office and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities.

The scheme allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members to come to the UK if they have a named sponsor.

Translators Charlotte and Gavin are looking at ways to ease the process of refugees coming to Cornwall.

They spent two weeks on the border and now want to continue their work.

Charlotte told us: "So many people in Britain have out their names forward to say they will have Ukrainians to stay, which is just incredible, amazing, and what we're thinking about is how to organise, maybe a website, where people could sign up to it.

"We do hope to continue translating and helping to liaise with Ukrainians that come to Britain, and smooth over any misunderstandings, you know having someone in your home is quite intense and people might do things in a funny way that you don't quite understand what they mean, we hope we can help with that a bit."

About the Homes for Ukraine visas

Visas have been issued to local authorities based on the postcode of the sponsor’s address, or of the accommodation address if the applicant is not staying with the sponsor.

Not all records of visas have a postcode that has been mapped to a local authority area, but the number of records excluded is less than 1%.

The data is provisional and is likely to include some duplicate records, so may not be an exact record of the number of individuals who have been issued visas.

The data does not contain the number of visas issued through the Ukraine Family Scheme, which allows applicants to join family members or extend their stay in the UK.
