That is a small rise from 17 the week before

23 patients with coronavirus were being cared for in hospital in Cornwall this week.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust was caring for 20 as of Tuesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on August 3rd was up from 17 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 increased by 43% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 14.

A further three patients with Covid-19 were being cared for at hospitals within the Cornwall Partnership Trust.

There were no beds occupied by Covid patients four weeks ago in the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Across England there were 5,116 people in hospital with Covid as of August 3, with 780 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has increased by more than double in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has also ​more than doubled.

The figures also show that 25 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to August 1. This was up from 22 in the previous seven days.
