16 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in hospital across Cornwall in the latest 24 hour period.

According to official figures, 12 of those occurred within the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and four within the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

NHS England figures show 164 people had died in total at RCHT as of 5pm on Tuesday (February 9th).

That was an increase of 12 compared to the 152 that had been recorded at the same point on Monday, and the first deaths in four days.

Meantime 54 people had died in hospital at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as of Tuesday.

That was an increase of four compared to Monday, when there were 50.

It means there have been eight deaths there in the past week, up from six the previous week.

The victims were among 3,884 deaths recorded across the South West.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
