The number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 302 in the last 24 hours, official figures show – and seven more deaths were recorded.

A total of 59,647 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on November 9 (Tuesday), up from 59,345 on Monday.

Latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 2,225 new cases in the seven days to last Thursday, giving us a case rate of 386.6 per 100,000 people.

Whilst the Duchy's cases and case rates are dropping, Cornwall Council's Public Health Team and the NHS are warning people that Covid has not gone away and residents and visitors are being urged to remain vigilant.

The director of urgent and emergency care at Treliske recently said that admissions would continue to feel the impact of the spike in cases for several weeks.

As of Tuesday 9th November, 54 patients were being treated in Cornwall's hospitals which is down by seven on last week.

There were also seven more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Cornwall.

The dashboard shows 581 people had died in the area by November 9 (Tuesday) – up from 574 on Monday.

It means there have been 15 deaths in the past week, which is an increase on 10 the previous week.

They were among 7,766 deaths recorded across the South West.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

The figures also show that four in five people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 417,782 people had received both jabs by November 8 (Monday) – 79% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 80% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
