143 more coronavirus cases recorded in Cornwall over the weekend

It's the biggest weekend increase in the Duchy since the beginning of the second outbreak.

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly jumped by 143 over the weekend, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 2,787 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday (November 9) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, up from 2,644 the same time on Friday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly now stands at 487 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 1,838.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 66,879 over the period, to 1,213,363.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's cases were among the 53,409 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 3,570 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
