Over 1,000 first doses of Covid jabs given across Cornwall in five days
More dates have been announced for walk-in clinics and locations for the vaccination van
Hundreds more people in Cornwall are now protected against coronavirus after grabbing a jab at walk-in clinics and at the vaccine van.
More than 1,000 first doses have been put into arms across Cornwall in the past 5 days, as people take up the opportunity to protect themselves against the deadly virus since the launch of walk-in, weekend and evening clinics and the mobile vaccination unit hitting towns and villages.
With additional walk-in dates planned, the hope is even more people will take advantage of protecting themselves and their loved ones ahead of lockdown lifting on Monday (19th July).
Walk-in clinics are also continuing for Pfizer first dose only at the large scale vaccination centres at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge and Stithians Showground, 7 days a week between 10am and 6pm.
The mobile COVID-19 vaccination van will be also out and about at the following sites, again for Pfizer first dose only.
Helston: Tesco car park, Clodgey Lane, Helton TR13 8PJ, Thursday 15th July, 10am to 5.30pm
Truro: The Plaza, Lemon Quay, (outside Hall for Cornwall), TR1 2LL, Saturday 17th July, 9.30am to 5.30pm.
Anyone aged 18 or older who lives in or near St Just can pop into the Cape Cornwall Surgery, Market Street, on Friday 16th July from 10am to 5.30pm. The surgery team at the walk-in are offering first doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Reeds Pharmacy (next to the Wig and Pen pub), Truro, and Day Lewis Pharmacy, Chester Road, also continue to provide walk-in clinic.
There is no need to book an appointment at the any of the walk-in clinics – just turn up and grab a jab.
GP surgeries who have held walk-ins, including at evening and at weekends to make it even easier for people to receive their vaccine, said they’ve had a good response.
“We vaccinated 89 people in five hours and while we had hoped to reach the magic 100, we’re delighted to have made it possible for those who hadn’t already had their first dose of the vaccine to do so.”
Amanda Menear, practice manager at the Veor Surgery, Camborne
“Nearly 750,000 doses have now gone into people’s arms in Cornwall – this is fantastic news.
“We’re doing all that we can to make it as easy as possible for people to protect themselves, their loved ones and get back to the things they like and enjoy when lockdown is lifted on Monday.
“I’d like to reiterate that it’s really important that people who have had their first dose also come back for their second. A second dose is required to provide the body with better protection against the virus.
“Anyone who has had their first dose can now have their second at 8 weeks rather than 12. If you are already booked for an appointment through the national booking service at 12 weeks, consider logging on to the system and changing it to bring the appointment forward. Vaccinators at the Stithians and Wadebridge showgrounds, will be only too pleased to see you for your second dose. So please, don’t delay and get your jab today, and do it for Cornwall.”
