A man who told police he had 'no idea' that more than 100 cannabis plants were growing inside his Wisbech home has been handed a suspended sentence.

37 year old Luke Howe was living in York Road when officers visited about an unrelated matter.

They ended up finding all but one room of the house filled with cannabis plants and gorwing equipment, with the grow thought to be worth about £90,000 in total.

Howe admitted to production of a Class B drug at Peterborough Magistrates Court and was handed a twelve month suspended prison term.

Detective Constable Jon Edwards, of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said: “We work hard to shut down cannabis factories, but we can’t be everywhere and rely on people in our communities to be our eyes and ears and report any suspicious activity.

“I’d urge people to be vigilant, trust their instincts and report anything that doesn’t seem right.”
