Families living in a Cambridgeshire village are trying their best to keep themselves and their homes dry.

It comes as heavy rainfall in recent days has led to flooding in parts of Brampton, with some homes being flooded.

Some residents have been laying sandbags outside their front doors to protect themselves from floodwater entering their homes.

Michael Brown represents residents living in areas of Brampton including Hansell Road, which has been hit by flooding.

'You can't walk out of the house'

"As you can see, you can't walk out the house; there's two foot of water down the drive to get to the footpath and it's a mess," he said.

"Our neighbours have had water ingress and their downstairs is ruined; this isn't the first time, it's the third time this year.

"Some of these people have had to put new carpets, furniture fixes and fittings in; it's (the water) is half a brick short of coming through (into my house).

"It makes me worried, all the time."

'Welfare checks' carried out

Several flood warnings remain in place across Cambridgeshire, including the River Great Ouse between Brampton and Godmanchester.

Cambridgeshire County Council said it has received reports of flooding in parts of the county, including Brampton, Buckden Marina, Fen Drayton and Fenstanton.

“We are working with all our local partners, including Huntingdonshire District Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council, the Environment Agency, Anglian Water and Internal Drainage Board to support residents in the local communities as best as we can," a spokesperson said.

“Huntingdonshire District Council are continuing to carry out welfare checks in Brampton, Buckden Marina and Crystal Lakes, and are working with partners to look at what further support may be needed."

Michael believes residents are running out of ways to keep protected.

"There's not a lot more you can do; wherever we can put rubber strips down to prevent it going underneath garage doors, for example, you're limited to what you can do," he added.

"People pull together in these kinds of times and fortunately, we've got a wonderful neighbourhood and everyone is willing to help each other to sort it out."
