Tributes paid to "loving husband and dad" after fatal A14 crash
62-year-old Phillip Howarth's Skoda collided with a lorry, parked up on a layby on the A14 over the weekend
The family of a man who died in a crash on the A14 at the weekend have paid tribute to him, describing him as a "loving husband, dad and co-worker" with a "joyous laugh and sense of fun."
Phillip Howarth, 62, from Tiverton Way, Cambridge, died on Sunday, 13 October, after the silver Skoda Fabia he was driving collided with a lorry parked in a lay-by near Swaffham Bulbeck, between junctions 36 and 37. The crash occurred at around 5.15pm.
In a statement, Mr Howarth's family said, “Phil was a loving husband, dad and co-worker. He loved music, especially playing his guitar and listening to The Beatles. He loved being outside in nature and loved going to the Lake District."
The tribute continued, “He had a joyous laugh and sense of fun and was very fond of a ‘dad joke’, much to the annoyance of his sons. He worked at Glasswells, in Bury St Edmunds, and enjoyed working there with all the people he met."
Mr Howarth's family added, “He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he leaves a massive hole in all our hearts.”
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Information can be reported via the force website using reference Op Carter, or by calling 101.
