A pub landlord ses today's Cambridgeshire derby will give them a much-needed boost for several weeks to come.

The Woolpack in Peterborough is welcoming fans before and after the game between the Posh and Cambridge United this afternoon, which could bring in hundreds more in takings.

Despite meeting in the EFL Trophy in September, this is the first League One fixture between the two rivals with more than 11,000 fans expected at the Weston Homes Stadium, kick-off 12pm.

David Nightingale runs The Woolpack:

"There will be a massive buzz with excitement and anticipation; not only that, but it will bring in more people than a normal home game which is great for revenue for us which we do need in these hard times," he said.

"A local derby is a great boost to our monthly takings; without the home matches, it's very hard to meet our monthly targets."

David said he's aiming to take in around "£300-400 extra" on derby day, which he believes could help the pub into the new year.

"Every home game is very important"

"Every home game is very important because we get that extra revenue on that Saturday," he said.

"It will keep us going through into January and we do miss the football when the season closes; it's quite a sad affair because we miss all the people that (usually) come in!

"It will be friendly, warm, bacon and sausage rolls but it will be a warm welcome; everyone has great banter, talking about what's going to happen (on the pitch)."

Posh seek derby revenge, while Cambridge could extend unbeaten run

Despite enjoying more shots and possession, Peterborough were beaten at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night to end an unbeaten league run stretching back to September 2.

Darren Ferguson's men could go to within one point of the automatic promotion places ahead of the 3pm kick-offs.

Cambridge are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak, having won against Tottenham Hotspur Under 21s in midweek.

The U's could climb into the top 10 spots with a second league derby success against the Posh in a row, after their 2-0 victory in April.
