A new tiny café could be opening in a South Cambridgeshire village inside a refurbished shipping container.

Plans have been put forward to open the new café at the Unity Campus development in London Road, Pampisford.

The café would only have space for around four seats inside, but the café is hoping to offer outdoor seating as well.

A planning application asking for permission to create the new café has been submitted to South Cambridgeshire District Council by Howard Sawston Ltd.

The café is only proposed to be in place for around three years to cater to workers before a permanent café opens in one of the upcoming phases of the life science park development.

The plans given to the district council said: “The principle of introducing a temporary café unit on the site is entirely acceptable and its use is ancillary to the existing employment uses present in the site and will improve the user experience for existing employees.

“Importantly it will not have any unacceptable adverse effects on existing businesses on the site and as indicated it will be removed once the ‘hub’ building proposed within the phase three application is operational.

“The café will also not attract any additional levels of visitor traffic in the area.

“The proposals are entirely acceptable and should be welcomed.

“It is proposed that the café is introduced to the site for a three year period and the applicants would expect a condition requiring this to be removed from the site either at the end of the three year period or when the café space to be delivered within the ‘hub’ building is operational.

“This is not considered an unreasonable request.”
