Man who sexually assaulted Cambs Uni student claimed to be related to rapper
The 27-year-old was jailed for 10 years
A man who claimed to be related to a rapper in order to sexually assault one of his victims has been jailed.
Marlon Oni, 27, targeted one of the victims, a university student, in Cambridge on 19 October 2019 at a venue in the city centre after a gig.
After the gig had finished, Oni was standing by a security barrier, and approached the victim, saying he was related to a rapper and began flirting with her.
At about 4am, they left the venue to return to where the victim lived in the city.
About an hour later, the victim awoke to find Oni sexually assaulting her and told him to leave the room.
She arranged to meet her boyfriend and they spotted Oni and decided to confront him.
At this point, Oni ran off but was later identified on CCTV and cross-referenced against his scanned ticket to the gig.
Oni also sexually assaulted a woman at a house in Wood Green, London, on 22 April 2018, after a night out at a club in Park Lane.
He had returned from the club and began to pester the victim, insisting he could not sleep unless he could cuddle her.
She fell asleep but awoke to find Oni sexually assaulting her and continued to touch her inappropriately after the victim had told him to stop.
On Friday (26 May), at Cambridge Crown Court, Oni, of Cringle Mews, Derby, was jailed for 10 years having been found guilty of attempted rape, assault by penetration and attempting to assault by penetration.
Oni pleaded not guilty to rape but there was a hung jury on this charge and the offence was filed.
DC Jake Owen, from the force’s Rape Investigation Team, said: “Marlon Oni is an incredibly dangerous offender so I am absolutely delighted he has faced justice for his despicable crimes.
“We want our streets to be safe for everyone and have zero tolerance for sex offenders so we will always push for the strongest possible sentences to bring offenders to justice and protect others.
“I would like to thank both victims for their bravery in coming forward and helping us secure a conviction and ultimately, Oni’s sentence.”
