People behind a series of free events in Cambridge hope they can make the city more accessible to everyone.

Visitors are being encouraged to take part in the likes of walks, talks and exhibitions over the next week to learn more about the city's history and heritage.

The Open Cambridge event aims to offer special access to places that are usually closed to the public or charge admission.

Zoe Smith is helping run the event:

"An aspect is something we've grown is the number of community organisations taking part, which gives people the opportunity to meet people of different beliefs they wouldn't necessarily have known about before," she said.

"I think it's showing people this city is for everybody, so for the local area, it's great for bringing people in and showcasing how beautiful this city is."

On its website, Open Cambridge, in conjunction with the University of Cambridge aims to provide "an inclusive platform to showcase extraordinary spaces, places and people."

Zoe hopes that the event can also bring people together.

"Since Covid, we've been isolated in our own world, I think the opportunity to get out and join in with new things is something that's special," she added.

"Try something you've not wanted to try before and go to places you've never heard of, explore and discover because you never know, you might be surprised with what you find."
