'Prolific' Peterborough shoplifter jailed for eight months

A Peterborough shoplifter's been sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting to a string of offences in the city.

3\9 year-old Iltaf Hussain, of no fixed address, was found to have stolen from a Morrisons Daily and Poundland in the Breton area of the city.

This included ÂŁ1,676 worth of items from Morrisons, and ÂŁ100 worth of air fresheners from Poundland.

When previously confronted by two members of staff who suspected him of shoplifting, he became verbally abusive and hit one of them on the shoulder before leaving.

Mr Hussain was charged with a public order offence, assault by beating, and ten counts of theft from a shop.

Alongside his prison sentence he's been ordered to pay ÂŁ225 in compensation to Morrisons Daily and ÂŁ25 to Poundland.

Mr Hussain was sentenced at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday.
