Pop-up vaccination clinics set up across Cambridgeshire

A local GP says they're vital

Catch-up vaccination clinics will ensure children don't miss out on vaccines

Pop-up vaccination clinics will be set up in six locations across Cambridgeshire to encourage those without certain jabs to get vaccinated.

They open from Monday 17th February, the start of half-term, so children too can get vaccinated against the likes of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), HPV (human papillomavirus) and other viruses if they aren't already.

Local GP Dr Gary Howsam told us how those without vaccines are at risk: "Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect people from a whole host of infectious diseases

"The World health organisation has said that one of the biggest risks to global health is people not taking up the opportunity of vaccines".

He urged people to not rely on information they see online or on social media about vaccines, but on the NHS website instead.

There's no need to book for the clinics, visitors can just show up.

Chief Medical Officer at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Dr Fiona Head, said: “By making sure your child is up to date with their vaccinations, you can help protect them against diseases that could make them very ill and even lead to a need for hospital care.

“As long as your child meets the age eligibility then it's not too late for them to have these vaccinations. So, please check your children’s red book (if you have one) to see if they have missed any or speak to their GP practice if you’re unsure."

The pop up clinics will be available at: Doddington Hospital on Benwick Road (Monday); Ross Street Community Centre (Monday); 100a Barnardo's Hub in Dogsthorpe (Tuesday); Oasis Community Centre on St Michael's Ave (Wednesday); Wisbech South Child and Family centre on Elizabeth Terrace (Wednesday); and Loves Farm, 17 Kester Way (Thursday).
