Police close A1 after fatal crash at Wittering

They report a man was struck by a vehicle after he was spotted walking on the central reservation

Cambridgeshire Police say both lanes of the A1 between the A47 and A43 are closed after a fatal crash at Wittering - which could impact your journeys this morning (8 August).

A 27 year old who was reported walking along the central reservation of the road's believed to have been struck by a vehicle.

He was declared dead a the scene - and anyone with information's urged to forward it to officers

In a statement, officers said: "The A1 is shut in both directions following a fatal collision at Wittering.

"We were called at just after midnight today with reports of concern for a man who was walking along the central reservation of the road near the entrance to RAF Wittering.

"Shortly after, the 27-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and was declared dead by emergency services at just before 12.30am.

"Both lanes of the road are shut between the junctions with the A47and A43 and are expected to be into morning rush hour and beyond.

"Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it is urged to contact police via Cambridgeshire Constabulary's website quoting incident 3 of 8 August.

"Anyone without internet access should call 101 and ask to speak to a member of the Road Policing Unit."
