Plane crash at Cambridgeshire aviation museum

A private plane has crashed at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, with all emergency services called to the scene

A small plane crash-landed at the Imperial War Museum Duxford this afternoon.

Pictures on social media show emergency crews dealing with the incident.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 1.41pm to a report of a plane crash at Duxford airfield.

A spokesperson told us: "Four fire engines and a water carrier attended the incident.

"Crews assisted other emergency services and carried out scene safety and left the scene around 4pm."

Posting on X, the historic airfield in Cambridgeshire said emergency services were onsite at IWM Duxford, responding to an incident involving a private aircraft.

It added: "We have no further information at this time. IWM Duxford is closing to visitors for the remainder of this afternoon."

In a further post, officials said the site would remain closed to visitors throughout Wednesday and Thursday but expected to reopen on Friday 29th March.

Meanwhile, a multi-disciplinary team from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has deployed to Duxford to begin investigating an accident, which it confirmed involved a light aircraft.

Duxford is Europe's largest air museum.
