A 27-year-old man has been jailed for one-year-and-six-months after attacking another man with a wrench outside a homeless charity in Peterborough.

The victim was left with serious facial injuries after the incident outside The Light Project in Gravel Walk in August.

Police say Devon Cox demanded £500 from the victim, threatening him by putting a wrench to his neck

He then punched, kicked and grabbed the man, marching him through the streets before he was able to escape.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson said "Devon Cox, 27, had demanded £500 from the victim, a 42-year-old man, outside The Light Project, in Gravel Walk, at about 6am on 1 August.

"He refused so Cox pressed a wrench into his neck and threatened him, demanding he withdraw the sum from a cash machine.

"Cox punched and kicked him repeatedly, before grabbing him and marching him along Bridge Street and into Broadway.

"After punching the victim several more times and throwing him to the ground, the victim managed to escape by jumping on a bus that had stopped nearby.

"He later received treatment in hospital for serious facial injuries.

"At Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday (2 October), Cox, of Huntly Grove, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to ABH, and was jailed for one year and six months."
