Future still unclear for Peterborough Panthers after Showground exit
The final speedway meeting at the venue took place at the weekend
With speedway at the East of England Showground coming to an end, it's not yet clear what Peterborough Panthers' future will look like.
Saturday’s farewell meeting closed the curtain on speedway at the Showground after 53 years.
The venue is the subject of redevelopment plans for the area, which includes 1,500 homes and a £50m leisure village.
We spoke to some Panthers fans on where they see the club's future:
"If we can get land elsewhere, then we can resurrect it but I think it will take a while," one fan said.
"I don't want to see it die because it's such a big part of the community for so many years," said another supporter.
While a fan compared the Showground track to a food analogy:
"The fans here have been brought up on steak and chips; they don't want to go and have spam and chips," they said.
Speedway isn't viable at the Showground, says developer
A spokesperson for Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG) have previously said the future of speedway at the Showground is not happening.
"A continuation of speedway at the showground is not an option and will definitely cease at the end of this season," an AEPG spokesperson said.
"This is irrespective of the future development, planning applications and temporary use of part of the site by DHL.
"Running speedway on this site is simply no longer viable."
